Renowned travel writer, and local son from Winona, returns to regale us with stories of his travels. Frank's Bio (in his own words): I am a writer inspired by the tradition of Shiva Naipaul, Ryszard Kapuscinski, Gary Smith and others who look for art in the material of the world. I’ve written for publications including Harper’s, Esquire, Outside, the Washington Post Magazine, the L.A. Times and am a contributing editor at the Travel Channel’s WorldHum.com and Poets & Writers. I’ve lived in several countries, speak decent Swahili and Italian (and passable Thai), and especially enjoy the warmth and complexity found in parts of Africa. I’ve been lucky enough to win a few awards, including a spot in the Best American Travel Writing 2004, a Lowell Thomas award in 2007, two “Notable Travel Writing” mentions in the Best American Travel Writing 2008, and another place in the Best American Travel Writing 2009. I currently live in Minneapolis with my wife and two daughters.
